Tacos Chicos

Tacos Chicos (110 Ave A) is the East Village’s newest taqueria pop-up, where the vibrant flavors of Mexico City collide with the grit and energy of New York’s punk rock scene.

Tucked inside 96 Tears, a bar inspired by the spirit of rock and roll, its story begins with Ramones’ legendary creative director Arturo Vega, a fixture in the punk rock scene.

Vega first connected New York City bar owners Johnny T, Chris, and Sam with Mexico City natives Gustavo and Elias Gameros. The group first joined forces at a Mexico City music festival, where they discovered their shared love for music and superior tacos. Inspired by their common love, they set out to bring the authentic flavors of Mexico City to the East Village.

To bring their vision to life, they turned to Sergio Capdevielle, an acclaimed chef with roots in Mexican cuisine. Arriving in New York, at just 17, Segio worked his way up, refining his skills and ultimately opening three award-winning taquerias. A five-time winner of New Jersey’s Best Taco Award, his expertise in bold, authentic flavors helped transform Tacos Chicos from an idea to a reality.
